- Note
- The Clifton's cafeteria was named after the founder Clifford Clinton, who started the business in 1931 after he moved from San Francisco to Los Angeles. As the sign "pay what you wish" suggested, the popular eatery had a flexible pricing policy during the Great Depression. The original location was remodeled in tropical theme completed with a waterfall and since known as Clifton's Pacific Seas. The restaurant was also known for its sightseeing service for visitors, organ music and live performances. The second cafeteria, Clifton's Brookdale cafeteria, opened on Broadway in Los Angeles in 1935.
