- Description
- A silver Yad ("hand" in Hebrew) pointer with an inscribed rod and compartment said to contain spice. The rod tapers to a narrow end with a hand pointing its index finger. Rabbinical law decreed that touching the Torah would make ones' hands unclean, so pointers like this are used in Jewish synagogues to allow the reader to follow the text of the Torah without touching the parchment with their bare hands. The inscription on the lower section translates to, "To God that is the Greatest."
