S О) VIDA Newsletter Issue Number IV Women in Chile Surrounding some neighborhoods, watching, guarding, and controlling; the military and secret police repress the powerless Chilean citizens . All democracy has been stolen from these innocent people. Homes are stripped and searched. All males over the age of fourteen are brutally oppressed so that all ideas of reform never blossom. The economy is poor and further degenerating. The authoritarianism affects the entire country. If you attended the "Women in Chile" seminar with feminist organizer Silvia Lamadrid, you would understand how this current day problem impedes and oppresses the poor workers in Chile today. FIESTA J EL 0R6ELL0 DE U COMEN IDAD This spring Hispanics for Law and the Mexican American Alumni Association will Co- Sponsor the second Annual Fiesta. The theme for this year's event is "El Orgullo de la Communidad" which represents the Hispanic students at Loyola as the "pride of thier community." The Fiesta will be held pn Saturday, March 19, 1988 at the Quiet Cannon Country Club in Montebello. The evening will start at 6:00 p.m. with cocktails followed by dinner and will conclude with dancing. The cost of this fun-filled evening is: students $18.00 (R.S.V.P. )/$25.00 at the door; Alumni: $25.00 (R.S.V.P)/ $30.00 at the door. The guest speaker will be Diane Fuentes-Michel a graduate of Loyola in 1979 who has shown the Hispanic community nothing but excellence and upward mobility in various fields of government . A special honor will be made to Dr. Haydee Tyrell-Reigadas , long standing Spanish professor here at LMU. Invited guests to this event include Alumni, Hispanic graduating students, present students and LMU 1 s Latino faculty. All other guests are also welcome to attend.
