VIDA Polumc * V_ Pate: April 12, 1969 A Warm Welcome to Mercedes Mondraqon NEW ASSISTANT DIRECTOR d£a DE RECONOCIMIENTO Chicano Graduation In case you have not noticed we have a new Assistant Director at CSS. Ms. Mondragon is a former student of LMU and has returned to offer us her numerous talents and to assist in aiding the Latino community at LMU reach its utmost potiential. In her own words the new Assistant Director of CSS would like to formally introduce herself. — HELLO!, my name is Mercedes Mondragon and I am the new Assistant Director for the Chicano Student Services. As a student of LMU in 1981 and now as Assistant Director in 1989, it gives me great pleasure to be a part of this department once again! I was first welcomed into this department when I came to LMU as an incoming freshman in 1981. I remember the great effort and commitment this department made to welcome our families at the Latino Welcome. As an undergraduate, I majored in Biology and rainored in Lay Ministry. I participated in CSS as an APP counselor for two years and also as an officer in Chicanos for Creative Medicine. continued on page 7 Leave your calender blank for April 29, which is Dia de Reconocimiento . Everyone is invited to attend the dinner and mass celebration held to commemorate and recognize the 1989 graduating Latinos of the LMU community. We will also be celebrating MEChA's 20th Anniversary. The day's event will commence with a mass celebrated at 1:00 in Huesman chapel by the Honorary Bishop Armando Ochoa of San Fernando Valley. Following the mass, dinner, awards, mariachi's and dancing will follow in the Terrace room. The succulent dinner will be catered by Asuncion, who are renouned for their delicious carnitas. This very special event honoring our graduating seniors is held annually and is open to everyone: Parents, all class- level students, and especially for those graduating. The event will also celebrate MEChA's 20th anniversary. Loyola was one of the first universities to have a MEChA founding organization. Through students struggling, we were able to establish Chicano studies and Chicano student services. Your attendance is greatly desired. Come join us in this commemorative ocassion.
