Young women who are interested in finding out more about Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. are invited to attend a potluck social on November 14 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in the Hannon Loft. For more information, call 753-9721 - Valerie Jones. PRE-MED . . . Black Health Society is an organization that serves all minority students interested in pursuing health related professions. This organization offers services that include personal and academic counseling, study groups, tutorial service, old test files, guest speakers, seminars and workshops preparing for MCAT, DAT, etc., mock interviews, information on all medical schools, summer programs and all conferences. This organization also provides health related tours, field trips, i.e. medical, dental, nursing, public health, pharmacy and community clinics. Our health careers resource library is located in Afro-American Supportive Services, Malone 204. The meetings are held twice a month and study group sessions immediately follow the meetings - Suzanne Afflalo INTERCULTURAL DAY . . . Don't forget Intercultural Day has been changed from October 26, to November 9, 1982. That is this coming Tuesday in Alumni Mall. Be sure to be there. Encouraging words and good thoughts are expressed when the Black Journalist Association of Southern California (BJASC) is mentioned. And in the most recent conversations about the BJASC, familiar names are heard. Ms. Venus Griffith and Ms. Nonvice Тепё Harris- Sharp were recently honored at the BJASC at a scholarship dinner on Friday, October 8th at the Sheraton Plaza La Reina Hotel. The well attended dinner sported several dignitaries and organizations as everyone banded together to congratulate and award promising young journalists. The highlight of the program was the presentation by Keynote speaker Robert Maynard, Editor, Publisher and President of the Oakland Tribune. Mr. Maynard is one of the very few Blacks who is editor of a non-black major daily newspaper. Mr. Robert Maynard expressed the vital need for Black Journalists in all aspects of the media. He stressed the "struggle for intellectual self determination." It is important to be competent as the technical revolution advances, to organize and meet our peers in the field with equality. We must be prepared as a whole to display the skills necessary to become managers of major daily newspapers. Mr. Maynard continued to emphasize commitment, both to ourselves and to everything we undertake. A key danger is allowing yourself to become "technically excellent and morally bankrupt." There is a responsibility to the entire country and Blacks especially cannot forget "from whence we came." It is not only good, but imperative that we be "about the business of America's unfinished business." Try to forget the "I'm O.K. and I don't care about anyone else" attitude. Lastly, Blacks must accumulate the portrayal of richness and diversity. The general purpose of the BJASC is to 1) offer a means of association for Black professionals in the Los Angeles area news media, 2) help provide employment opportunity information for minorities, 3) to educate and train high school and college students pursuing a career in journalism and 4) to work toward better news coverage of the black community. Key representatives from the following organizations helped to make the program a success: KNXT, KTTV, CBS, KNBC, Los Angeles Times, L.A. County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, KJLH, Asian American Journalists Assn., California Chicano News Media Assn., G.T.E., Los Angeles Dodgers and Arco are just a few. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." -Phillipians 4:13
