- Note
- The original Miramar hotel was the home of Santa Monica co-founder John P. Jones. Built in 1888, the three story Victorian mansion included 17 bedrooms. In the 1920s the home was remodeled and enlarged and opened as the Miramar Hotel in 1921. The portion of the hotel that comprised of Jones' original home was demolished in the 1930s. Bungalows that opened to the pool area were added to the hotel in 1938. In 1989, in celebration of the hotel's 100th anniversary, a 33 million dollar renovation began, continuing into the 1990s. The bungalows that once lined the pool area were demolished and replaced with luxury one and two-story suites, and the old Ocean Avenue exit was moved and a new entrance created at 101 Wilshire Boulevard. The hotel was renamed the "Fairmont Miramar Hotel" when Fairmont Hotels and Resorts began managing the hotel in 1999.
