took the Journalism Award, and
Gil Hayes was honored by the
Lair Annual. The National Poetry
Association gave its award to Pete
Wright, and Delta Sigma Phi
Frank Carothers, without whose
work the ceremony would have
been considerably shorter. From
the evident appreciation of the
audience, it is . to be hoped that
Loyola will continue to honor its
outstanding students in this man¬
ner every year.

Prexy Report
As we reflect upon the success¬
es . of this year’s Administration,
we must recognize the men who
unselfishly contributed to making
those successes a reality. Often
we look to the President of the
A.S.L.U. as the individual who
should revive the compliments
for a job well done.
Rather the limelight should be
shared with' all of our student

SuccessTour
BY PAUL LUCCA
The Loyola Glee has just com¬
pleted a very successful tour to
San Diego where they appeared
at University High and the Uni¬
versity of San Didgo.
YEARLY TOUR
The tour, an annual event, be¬
gan Friday afternoon when the
club boarded a bus that was to
take them to4*Torrey Pines Inn in
La Jolla. As is the occasion with
most of these tours, . getting there
was half the fun, since the Cellar
Dwellers accompanied the club on
the trip and provided music for
singing all the way to La Jolla.
CONCERTS
Friday evening, the club gave
a concert at U niversity High at
8:00, and immediately after that
performance, arrived at the Uni¬
versity of San Diego campus for
another show at 9:30. This was
followed by a social with some of
the women from U.S.D. which
made the trip well worth it. After
a little sight-seeing Saturday
morning, the traveling trouba¬
dours returned home that after¬
noon.
The “Belles” Is I
Luau Slated For
The Loyola Belles have selected White's Point in Palos
Verdes as the location for their third annual “Hawaiian
Luau," according to Steve Nordeck, Belles Chairman. The
event will be held on Sunday, May 19.
The festivities are scheduled to begin at 4. It is open to
leaders. If we are going, to give
proper recognition we must single
out the members of the Executive
Board, Chuy Gonzales, Vice Pres¬
ident, Clay Wilson, Secretary, and
__ , , Art Kociencki, who should be
given to Bill Izabal, who helped given a great deal of credit for
organize the. Convocation and Dr. their service to the University
I and the Student Body. In the
opinion of many students, faculty
members, and members of the Ad¬
ministration these men are among
the most outstanding student
leaders at Loyola.
Perhaps many of you think that
I am trying to be humble in my
old age by giving recognition to
these individuals. The point that I
wish to make is that any office
such as the Presidency is only as
strong as the men who work with 1
the President. It is simply a well- !
known fact that these men along j
with other student leaders are re- 1
sponsible for a successful year.
I would encourage every Loy-
olan to take an active role in
Student Government or any or¬
ganization. These activities repre¬
sent a laboratory of practical ex¬
perience in leadership.
The Presidency has been an
enriching experience and I would
like to thank you, the members
of the Student Body for giving me
this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Bill Herreras

Strub Theatre
On Wednesday, May 15, the
Communication Arts Depart¬
ment will sponsor a Television
Day. This special show will be
open to all students who would
like to see real television equip¬
ment in action. The doors to
the Strub Theatre will open at
11:00 a.m. and remain open
throughout the day. A vast ar¬
ray of television equipment will
be exhibited to the students
who will be allowed to play
with the goodies themselves.
It has been said that the
equipment used by the TV in¬
dustry is so simple to operate
that “even a child can do it,”
so it is presumed that Loyola
boys, can handle the job. It is
sincerely hoped, by the Com¬
munication Arts people that
show will be well attended.4
SHORT TOUR
The tour, although it is the
highlight of the year for the Glee
Club, was rather short this year
mainly because of one reason:
they are saving their money in
hopes of traveling back East next
year. Nevertheless, the club did
| have quite an active year. They
gave a number of concerts and
appeared at the Intercollegiate
Festival held at Pomona College
on May 4. Here they joined ten
colleges including S.C., Los An¬
geles State, Cal-Tech, Pomona,
and Occidental among others in a I
song fest to promote good will j
| among its participants.
TURNOVER BANQUET
The Glee Club’s activities are
not over yet. This Saturday, May
18, they will have their annual
turnover banquet and dance, this
year to be held at the Ramada
Inn, at which the officers for next
year will be announced. The next
day, Sunday, the Glee Club is
holding its Alumni Concert for
past members of the club and any-
one else who wishes to. attend; It
will be held in St. Robert’s Audi¬
torium at 8:00 p.m.; tickets are
$1.00 for general admission and
$.50 for students and alumni. The
concert will be followed by a ban¬
quet in the Presidents Lounge.
RECRUITING
Next year, the Glee Club has
big plans. As was already men¬
tioned, they hope to go back East
in addition to having a full itin¬
erary out here in the Los Angeles!
area.

all of the Catholic Women’s Col¬
leges, Loyola and any friends who
wish to attend.
DANCING
Dancing to the fine sounds of
Tom DiMuzio and his band will
start about 7, and the evening
should come to a close about 10.
The $1.50 admission price will
include dinner, drinks, beer, and
hot dogs. A massive crowd is ex¬
pected for the always popular
party, this year being even great¬
er due t6 the cool -kegs , cheaper
price, and more Belles. Maps have
been posted around campus and
directions can also be had from
any Pep Clubber. Last year’s Ha¬
waiian Luau held at Lake En-
chanto was a huge, success. ,
BAND
Loyola’s 50 newly installed
Belles, representing the five wo¬
men’s colleges, will act as host¬
esses for the event. The Silver-
tones, who will provide the music,
became well-known for their fine
job at the Carnival in the popular
dance tent. They promise to be
in top form.
White’s Point, a mere stone’s
throw from anywhere in Los An¬
geles, is at Portuguese Bend on
the beautiful Palos Verdes Pen-
I insula. Royal Palm Grove is at
White Point at the foot of West¬
ern Avenue.
FESTIVITIES
The evening ' festivities will be
proceeded by an afternoon of
swimming, volleyball, football,
surfing, baseball and hot dog bar-
bequing.
