Massacre
Kills Them
Wednesday evening saw the
Westchester shopping district come
alive as the 35th Loyola Home¬
coming parade made its way down
Sepulveda Blvd. The throngs of
spectators lining the street despite
threatening weather were delighted
by the many rambling floats, high-
stepping bands and various novelty
groups.
But it was not until the next
evening at the Rally that the ver¬
dict of the judges was delivered on
the entries. Amid a jam-packed
gym of anxious students, Chairman
John Kelly announced that Phi
Sigma Kappa fraternity, in conjunc¬
tion with Gamma Sigma Phi so¬
rority of Mt. St. Mary.’s, had copped
the Sweepstakes award for best
float. Their entry was a replica of
the St. Valentine’s Day massacre
depicting a “gangster” Lion blast¬
ing three Occidental Tigers.
Other awards for the float en¬
tries included: the Queen’s Award
going to Phi Kappa Theta and the
Kappas from the Mount; the Theme
Prize to ADG fraternity and the
girls from Marymount; the Novelty
award received by TKE. The newly
conceived President’s Award went
to the IHC novelty group. The best
drill team was from Pius X High
School. Hawthorne High School
displayed the best band.
