- Description
- A portable shrine containing a wooden statue of Shaka Sanzonzō (Sākyamuni), the living Buddha, standing in a lotus blossom on a pedestal. The figure holds its right hand in the mudra (gesture) of reassurance and its left in the mudra of charity, a combination known as abhayavaradamudra. The exterior of the cylindrical wooden case is carved and painted with black lacquer. Two double-hinged doors open to reveal a gilded interior. Sākyamuni's two bohisattva attendants, Fugen (Samantabhadra) and Monju (Mañjuśrī) are painted on either of the two interior doors.
