- Note
- Rose Black was married to John Black (died 1923), a miner and saloon owner in Big Pine and Bishop, California. Her two children were Rosalind and J. D. (John David) (1893-1960). In 1922 and 1926 she is listed as a registered voter in Big Pine, and her occupation is noted as housewife. By 1928 Rose Black is absent from voter lists. The "Dowe" of Dowe Photo is possibly either Arthur W. Dowe, a photographer and portrait artist in San Francisco from 1878 through 1897; or Lewis Dowe, a traveling photographer in California from 1872 through 1890 and possible relative of Arthur W. Dowe.
