- Note
- In Santeria, an altarpiece of Osun is given to new initiates as a ritual object. The pratitioner keeps the altarpiece in a sacred corner of his shrine and makes sacrifices. This practice differs from the Yoruba iconography and practice, wherein the altarpiece would be topped with a pigeon rather than a rooster and the ritual object would be attached to a tall rod to be used as a staff with the bells announcing the presence of the Yorùbá priest.
