- Note
- Mount St. Mary's College is a Catholic women's college, founded in 1925 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Mount St. Mary's was housed temporarily at St. Mary's Academy at Slauson and Crenshaw in Los Angeles until, in 1928, the Sisters purchased 36 acres of land among the foothills of the Santa Monica mountains. The College graduated its first students in 1929 at the new Campus. Twenty years later, the College added an additional 20 acres to campus, and in 1962, added a second campus on the Doheny Estate near downtown Los Angeles. In 1952, the college granted its first baccalaureate degree in nursing, and began offering graduate degree programs in 1955.
