- According to a proposal for La Causa Youth Center, September 19 of 1969 marks the date of the formation of the "La Cause Steering Committee" which consisted of David Luna, Loyola student United Mexican-American Students President, Antonio Jimenez, Loyola student and La Causa Student Director; Maria Teresa Martinez, Marymount student and United Mexican-American Students Vice-President; Reverend John W. Clark, S.J., Academic Vice-President, Loyola University; William Fitzgerald, Chairman, Political Science Department, Loyola University; Virginia Barnell, Assistant to the President, Marymount College; Grace Limon, Marymount Faculty Member; and Victor Garcia, Project Director. The objectives of La Causa included the development of language and study skills of Mexican American students between the ages of 13 - 20, cultural enrichment "based on Mexican-American literature and history with the use of relevant books, films, and lectures" as well as the improvement of recruitment and retention efforts by colleges and universities.
