- Note
- Located on 90 acres along the beach in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, Marineland of the Pacific opened in 1954. At the time, it was the largest oceanarium in the world. The largest tank had a circumference of 250 feet and held 1,000,000 gallons of water. The park housed 4,000 fish from 250 different species, and 110 marine mammals from 11 different species, including orcas, dolphins, pilot whales, seals, and sea lions. Several of the marine mammals were featured in acrobatic shows, but were also the subject of behavioral research. The park closed in 1987.
