- Description
- A wooden portable shrine in the form of a cabinet with painted panels depicting the narratives of Krishna and Rama. As a storyteller opens the panels, parts of the story are revealed until the shrine is fully open and an interior compartment containing the three painted wooden idols of Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita is revealed. Beneath the panels is a drawer used by the traveling storyteller to collect donations for their work.

- Note
- Kāvad are used as portable shrines or as storytelling objects to narrate the frametales of deities from the Ramayana and Mahabaharta. Oftentimes the kāvad will have been commissioned by a notable family and their family history is depicted on the panels in addition to the frametales. This kavad was acquired by the collector in either Madurai or Hyderabad in India.
