- Note
- From French Canada, John Black bought this business, a saloon, in Bishop, California in 1888; he had come to Bishop in 1886. In 1902 he opened a saloon in Big Pine and later moved his family there. He also developed mining interests in the Chrysopolis, California area, beginning in the latter part of the 1890s. Voter registration lists from Big Pine in 1922 record his occupation as miner. John Black's wife was Rose, and the two were the parents of Rosalind and J. D. Black. John Black died sometime in 1923 at the age of fifty-eight.
