- Seward Road in the Hongkew (Hongkou) District of Shanghai was named after American Consul General George Frederick Seward (1840-1910), and it was later renamed Dongdaming Lu. Seward Road East, extension of Seward Road, was occupied by some Jewish businesses and residences in the 1930s and 1940s. Later it was renamed Changzi Dong Lu. Hongkew was part of the International Settlement and was the location of the Restricted Area for Stateless Refugees (or "Shanghai Ghetto") where Jewish Holocaust refugees were forced to live from 1941-1945.
