- Note
- Nicknamed "The Duke of Del Rey" while a student at Loyola University, Don Klosterman played quarterback for the Lions, setting a record with 4,481 passing yards over his 3 years on the team. After graduating, Klosterman went on to play for the Cleveland Browns and the Los Angeles Rams before trading to the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League. In 1957, while skiing in Banff, Alberta, Klosterman swerved to avoid a fallen skier and crashed into a cluster of trees. Told he would never walk again, Klosterman defied the odds, recovering enough over the next year to walk with the aid of a cane. And while his career as a player ended on the day of his accident, Klosterman returned to the AFL and NFL as a general manager for the Los Angeles Chargers, the Dallas Texans, the Houston Oilers, the Baltimore Colts, and the Los Angeles Rams.
