- Description
- Caption: "A leaf from Epistolary in Latin on vellum. France, ca. 1550. Gothic textura quadrata script and musical notation in black ink with rubrics and 4-line staves in red. The widely spaced and minimally decorated script lends itself well to the poorly lit areas of the church where this text would have been used. Deriving its name from the Epistles, the Epistolary also contains passages from both the Old and New Testament, and was used to celebrate feast days during High Mass."
