- Reverend Charles S. Casassa, S.J., the tenth President of Loyola University of Los Angeles from 1949 to 1969, was a great campus builder and the principal mover behind the affiliation and eventual merger with Marymount College. Reverend Donald Merrifield, S.J., was appointed Loyola University's 11th president in 1969. He was the first to lead the merged university after Loyola and Marymount College came together in 1973. He remained president of Loyola Marymount University until 1984.
