- Description
- A carved and painted wooden cross on a carved and painted wooden base with four kneeling apostles. Painted on the cross are images of the crucifixion and the Arma Christi. God is painted above the crucified Christ, Saint Mary is depicted below Christ with her hands together in prayer, and beneath Mary a golden altarpiece with candles on either side is depicted. The cross rests on a painted base. A scene of Adam and Eve wearing fig leaves and standing on either side of the tree of knowledge is depicted on the left. In the center is the winged archangel Michael with sword outstretched and holding scales. On the right is depicted the skeletal figure of death pointing a bow and arrow at a dying man. Along the bottom are depicted the eight remaining apostles.

- Note
- This cross was hung on a wall for many years, but originally was fixed on the base pictured here. This artifact was featured in the California Heritage Museum gallery show entitled “Saints and Sinners: Mexican Devotional Art" in 2002.
