A 44-page notebook containing typed, numbered lists of notes on the National Council of Catholic Women. These lists include the reasons for establishing the Council, a timeline of the Council's development, the social issues important to the Council, and the Council's goals, aspirations, and administrative processes. The notes additionally contain quotes by Thomas Jefferson, Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, and various Church leaders, which are used to support the Council's goals and activities, and they also include newspaper clippings on the importance of the Council's work, the need for Catholic charity work to occur in groups, and calls to Catholic women to get involved. Lastly, the notes include a timeline and description of the development of child labor laws during Woodrow Wilson's presidency.

Note
Throughout her life Mary Julia Workman was active in numerous social and religious efforts in Los Angeles. A Roman Catholic who built cooperative relationships with church leaders, she founded the diocesan chapter of the National Council of Catholic Women in 1924. She led the Los Angeles Civil Service Commission from 1927 to 1928 and helped establish local chapters of the League of Women Voters and the National Conference of Christians and Jews. She also became the first woman to join the Municipal League, a civic watchdog group. The Council of Catholic Women was founded in 1920 at a meeting of Catholic women convened by United States bishops in order to unite and coordinate the work of individual charitable groups that had formed during World War I and before.
