- Note
- In 1919, various Catholic charitable organizations throughout Southern California formally came together to form the Bureau of Catholic Charities, performing charitable work to help the poor and the sick. In 1926, they were officially recognized as the Catholic Welfare Bureau, serving five counties: Monterey, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, and Orange County. In later years, Monterey and Orange Counties developed their own Catholic Charities' agencies, and in 1986 the Catholic Welfare Bureau became Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc.
