- A Purple Heart recipient in WWII, Dr. Bill Fitzgerald ('48) transferred to Loyola University as a student from Glendale Junior College and later took his Ph. D from Georgetown. A long time member of the California Democratic Party, Fitzgerald taught political science for over 30 years at LMU.
