- Note
- Editor of the Big Pine, California, town newspaper, the Big Pine Citizen, A. G. Barmore (1884-1967) was leader in the town's fight for reparations in the mid 1920s from Los Angeles because he and other Big Pine residents, such as J. D. Black (1893-1960), believed Los Angeles' control of the valley caused the town's economy to wither. After he sold the Big Pine Citizen in 1932 in the wake of Big Pine's loss of population, Barmore left Big Pine, as this photograph attests, and died in San Diego County, in 1967. J. D. Black was also a leader in Big Pine's fight for economic reparations and probably took this photograph to document the deterioration of his town under Los Angeles.
