Audio guided tour of Good Samaritan

To continue with the multi frame telling stories. I have the Good Samaritan, which I did in 2002. And it's based on an earlier work, but I went back and redrew many of the elements. It's an artwork that I began 32 years earlier and I, it stayed

in my mind, I loved the idea of the multi frame. And so when I, when I first did it, it was um just more monochromatic, very few colors. I was just learning how to do my work and it, and it was uh and it has many

elements because at that time, I didn't know how to uh paint or draw very well. So I would just put many uh patterns and decorations. That was all I knew how to do. And the figures were very uh very primitive. So when I went back to

it, uh 32 years later, it was a um really embellished. I added a lot of elements to it, but I kept the same quality. Um There's no horizon line, you see things up and down. Uh If you look at each panel, there's uh stars and then

there's the sun. So it's like night and day happening at the same time. And then I added a lot of little elements of birds and, and a, and, uh, little animals all around, uh, frogs, um, rabbits. Uh, yeah. And, uh, the way and even the son

is, is a person and I, and there's a, like anecdotal things that, um, like the, the wife of the merchant that's traveling in the first panel, she's waving to him. Goodbye. And then in the second one where the bandits hitting the, the merchant and being robbed,

there's a man walking far away, like he doesn't want to notice it. He's walking with his cane. And I, and then in the third panel where the Samaritan, who is the outsider, the person that's often thought of as, you know, a person that's not of the

their tribe and looked down upon he's there to help. And you can see the merchant uh all wounded and with no clothes, he's just being washed uh by the, by the Samaritan and will be taken care of and far away. You see people uh doing their

work in the, in the fields, growing food. And then of course, if you can see um yeah, I like to add the um ornamental uh elements. And one of them is the peacock. I seem to like that idea of this, the beautiful peacock and just symbols

that of, of uh of patterns. And you look at the border, it's over over the top with all kinds of patterns uh to make the, so when you're looking at it, it becomes of interest. They're like little windows, but they draw you in because there's so

much, so much going on. And II, I use the lettering, the beautiful lettering um, of their kind of a more like the kind that you would see in, uh, the, uh beautiful illuminated manuscripts. And, you know, and so I was trying to make that with just

a simple title. Well, I, I, you know, it's a wonderful story and simple and I hope you'll be able to enjoy all the, these uh colors and, and details.
