- Note
- James Winchester Robinson opened his first store named "The Boston Dry Goods Store" at Spring and Temple Streets in 1881. In 1914, he moved to a new location at 7th street and opened an upscale department store under the new name, " J. W. Robinson Co." In the 1910s, the 7th street was becoming a dynamic commercial district transforming from agricultural land since the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad brought population explosion as well as commercial center's growth. The first building was designed by Noonan and Richards, and it was remodeled by Edward L. Mayberry in 1934. The department store was later acquired by May department store in 1987.
