- Note
- Broadway was the major corridor for shopping and entertainment in the Downtown Los Angeles from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. The Broadway Department Stores was founded in 1896 by Arthur Letts, Sr, an English immigrant. Its marketing strategy targeting cost-conscious customers was a huge success. Arthur Letts helped John G. Bullock, one of his famous employees including P.G.Winnett, to found Bullock's in 1907 at Seventh Street and Broadway in Downtown Los Angeles. After Letts passed away, Bullock and P.G. Winnett bought out Letts' interest and the companies.
