- Note
- The first federal building was constructed in Los Angeles between 1889-1892. As the first Federal building proved inadequate, a larger, six-story federal building was built on the site of the existing U.S. Courthouse between 1902-1910 and housed the U.S Post office. When the brand new Federal Building was erected at Temple Square, it was referred to at the time as "The Million-Dollar Post Office"in derisive term. However, it became the pride of the whole city when it was officially dedicated on October 15, 1910.
