John Francis followed in his father's political footsteps, serving as a Democratic U.S. Congressman (1933-1939), District Attorney of Los Angeles County (1940-1943), and running unsuccessfully for governor of California in the 1938 Democratic primary. Henry Isidore Dockweiler (d. 1970) served in the U.S. diplomatic corps in Japan, Spain, and China.
