- Note
- Loyola Marymount University traces its origins back to St. Vincent's College for boys, founded in 1865 by the Vincentian Fathers. When this school closed in 1911, members of the Society of Jesus opened the high school division of their newly founded Los Angeles College. Due to rapid growth, the college moved to a new location in 1917, which later became the campus of Loyola High School. The college incorporated as Loyola College of Los Angeles in 1918. Graduate instruction began in 1920 with the foundation of a separate law school, and moved to the present Westchester campus in 1929, achieving university status one year later. In 1973, Marymount College merged with Loyola University to form Loyola Marymount University.
