- Note
- Nathaniel Blackstone, the brother-in-law of J. W. Robinson, founded Blackstone's Dry Goods store in 1895. The department store changed its location several times, and it eventually moved to the N. B. Blackstone Co. building at 901 Broadway in Downtown Los Angeles. The new building was designed by well-known architect John Parkinson whose works included the Los Angeles City Hall, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and the Bullocks Wilshire department store. The Blackstone store carried silks, dresses, tailor made suits, jackets, capes, and skirts. It provided mail-order services with the slogans 'reliable goods' and 'popular prices' for its advertisement.
