Anthony Montes reminiscence - September 18, 2022

my name is Anthony Montes and I'm, I'm an LMU alumni of the class of 2018, you know, one thing about me is that I'm half latino and half caucasian, specifically mediterranean. And I'm a developed practicing catholic. And not only that LMU actually holds a very, very

unique time in history, at least my experience does, because I was, they're actually when the 45th president of United States donald trump was elected and I remember, oh my God, it was nuts. A lot of the students were absolutely furious when he got elected. However, we

also saw others who actually celebrated wearing maga hats, trump t shirts and everything and the student body was happening really, really divided at that time. And we spoke about politics. A lot of my african american studies class that I was taking at the time and that

was pretty interesting. LMU is a place that holds a very, very unique place in my heart because of how well, because of how nice, loving and welcoming everybody was and they embraced a guy like me who actually transferred in from a community college at the age

of 22. He was theoretically when I would have finished college. But yeah, but yeah, so that's why LMU holds a deep place in my heart. That's why I let me hold a deep place in my heart because of how nice loving and welcoming everybody is. One

thing I forgot to mention is that my mom went to LMU as well. I'll graduate the class in 1979 and she actually started Lemieux's first ever sorority, LM use Alpha Zeta Beta chapter and that was really cool and everything. That's the first one that's still going

on and everyone was really nice, they embraced me and even embraced me like an older brother almost I was just hanging out with and everything. Hey hell you've been bunking with two of them actually during the study abroad to Rome back in the summer of 2017

and led by dr onno Healy and oh my God, that is something you will never forget if you ever have the privilege of taking her study abroad, you know, you're gonna be intellectually stimulated to beyond belief. It's like, oh my God, words can't even describe how

amazing, amazing Dr Healy is as a professor, especially when she's teaching about the history of Italy for any which way, economically, politically humanitarian lee humanities is literally even food I hear she does a good job on that one and teaching about the teaching about the cultural

food of Italy and everything. So that one was really cool and even with Dr Harrison reading, hitting Dante's Inferno again from high school on everything. So like I said, this was one of the most intellectually stimulating any summers I've ever had in my life, when I,

when I studied in Rome and again, you learn just about everything from those ladies is politics, history, a philosophy, economics, comics, language, language, food and humanities, literally, you name it, you're going to learn it from them and frankly you're gonna have the best time of your

life.
