Venice
Amusement
Pier

built
after
the
fire
of
1920
, was
officially
opened
to the
public
on
Independence
Day

1921.

Venice
Pier
offered
a
plethora
of
rides
,
games
, and
other
activities
, and
included
roller
coasters
, a
99-foot
Dragon
Slide
, a
new
Ship
Cafe
,
Noah's
Ark
, a
merry-go-round
, a
racing
derby
, and
many
other
activities
.
Noah's
Ark
was a
funhouse
complete
with
maze
and
funhouse
mirrors
for
children
. The
Ark
rocked
like
a
boat
and the
outside
featured
Noah
, his
children
, and
animals
. The
Ark
was
used
in
Charlie
Chaplin's
movie
, The
Circus
.
Behind
Noah's
Ark
is
"The
Giant
Dipper
"
roller
coaster
, a
twister
style
roller
coaster
designed
by
Frederick
Church
and
Harry
Traver
,
who
were also the
designers
of the "
Race
Through
the
Clouds
" and the "The
Bobs
"
roller
coasters
also
located
on the
Venice
Pier
. In
1946
the
city
council
decided
to
tear
down
the
Venice
pier
. The
pier
was
slowly
demolished
, and what was not
demolished
was
destroyed
by a
fire
in
1947
.
