Boulevard
sometime
before
1933
.
Historical Background
When
Venice
,
California's
first
high
school
session
began
in
1911
,
classes
were
temporarily
held
at the
remodeled
Abbot
Kinney
Bath
House
on
Windward
and
Second
Streets
. In
1913
,
property
was
purchased
on
Venice
Boulevard
, and
groundbreaking
ceremonies
were
held
October
28
,
1914
for the
new
Venice
Union
Polytechnic
High
School
. The
buildings
were
designed
by
architect
C
.
H
.
Russell
and were
based
on the
structures
of
Northern
Italy
. In the
Spring
of
1933
, an
earthquake
caused
severe
damage
to the
school
building
, and
classes
were
held
in
temporary
tents
for
two
years
before
construction
began
on a
new
high
school
building
in
1935
.
