Description	Looking northeast towards Santa Monica High School with a driveway leading from the main road to the entrance.
Historical Background	Santa Monica High School began teaching classes in 1884, although it was not until 1894 that the High School was officially approved and established under the Union High School Law of 1891. The high school was originally located on Sixth Street and in 1898 it moved to Tenth Street and Oregon Avenue (later Santa Monica Boulevard) and became known as Lincoln High School. In 1910 a bond was approved to build a new high school, and construction began in 1912, opening for classes in 1913. The school was located at Prospect Hill, an area bounded by Fourth Street, Sixth Street, Michigan Avenue and Fremont Avenue (later Pico Boulevard)" The buildings sustained severe damage in the 1933 earthquake and in 1934 a process of remodeling and modernizing the schools began. Students attended classes in tents until the renovation was completed n 1938. In 1954 the school purchased the adjacent property formerly occupied by the Santa Monica City College, expanding the school's original 14-acre campus to a 33-acre campus located at 601 Pico Boulevard between Fourth Street and Seventh Street.
