Before discussing this memorandum I shall review the assur-
ances which have been given the Directors of Brownson House
Settlement Association by the Director of Catholic Charities [sic]
Brownson House Settlement Association will continues to funct-
ion in all the affairs of Brownson House in the future as in the
past, subject to the general direction and supervision of the
Bureau of Catholic Charities. It is understood that there shall be
mutual consultation, mutual co operation and that there shall be
co ordination of the work with the general plan for the common
good.
With this understanding it has been agreed that Brownson House
Settlement Association will administer the affairs of Brownson
House, will be responsible to the Bureau for the management of
House affairs, and the direction of paid and volunteer workers
employed at Brownson House and will define House policies. This
includes all matters pertaining to the engagement and dismissal
of paid workers employed at Brownson House. In short, in all
House affairs, and in its district, Brownson House Settlement
Association will function as heretofore after due consultation with the
Director of Catholic Charities or his duly appointed representative,
and the parish authorities.
