Historical Background |
The Dockweiler family has been closely intertwined with Los Angeles religious, political, and civic life. John Francis Dockweiler (d. 1943) was one of thirteen children born to Isidore Dockweiler (1867-1947) and Gertrude Reeve Dockweiler (1871-1937), eleven of whom survived infancy. John Francis followed in his father's political footsteps, serving as a Democratic U.S. Congressman (1933-1939), District Attorney of Los Angeles County (1940-1943), and running unsuccessfully for governor of California in the 1938 Democratic primary. |
