Historical Background
Anton
Grauel
(1897-1971)
was a
renowned
German
sculptor
. He
immigrated
to the
United
States
after
World
War
II
, and
later
settled
in
El
Segundo
,
California
. In
1964
, he was
commissioned
to
create
the
Seat
of
Wisdom
on
Loyola
Marymount
University
campus
,
located
between
Desmond
Hall
and
Rosecrans
Hall
.
Some
of his
artwork
are
now
housed
in the
Department
of
Archives
and
Special
Collections
in the
LMU
library
.
Reverend
Richard
H
.
Trame
,
S.J.
, had
served
multiple
positions
at
Loyola
Marymount
University
. He
began
teaching
History
at
Loyola
University
in
1957
, and
founded
the
University
Archives
in
1960
. He also
served
as
Dean
of the
Graduate
Division
from
1981
to
1987
. In
1984
,
Father
Trame
became
Moderator
of the
Chorus
, in
addition
to
being
History
Professor
and
University
Archivist
. As
Loyola
Choral
Coordinator
,
Father
Trame
was an
advocate
for the
Men's
Chorus
on
campus
. He had
assisted
Paul
Salamunovich
,
Professor
of
Music
and
Director
of
choral
groups
.
Father
Trame
was also
Chair
of the
Department
of
Music
for
one
year
in
1988
.
