Historical Background	Unidentified fishing party in the Owen Valley. Anglo-American settlers first introduced trout into the streams of Owens Valley, circa 1869-1876. Judge George Hall of Big Pine was especially instrumental in developing trout fishing in the Big Pine area. Around 1895, he began planting trout fry, including German Brown, Rainbows, and Golden, in the lakes of the Sierra Nevada surrounding Big Pine, where they thrived.
