Historical Background	Delivery service operated by W. A. and Otis Ingalls, possibly brothers, and a "Swain" in Candelaria, Nevada. W. A. Ingalls is most likely Candelaria merchant William A. Ingalls, who was also sheriff of Esmeralda County, home of Candelaria, and had interests in coal mines. Candelaria was established in 1876 on the basis of a mining boom that had begun in the early 1870s. During the peak years of 1881-1883 for mining, the town had a population of 1500 and twenty-seven saloons. A decade later, Candelaria began the decline into a ghost town, although some silver mining is still carried on in the area. The Carson and Colorado Railroad connected Candelaria to the Owens Valley. Such a delivery service would not be unknown in the towns of the Owens Valley.
