as

and
1928

According
to these
records
,
John
Mallory
was a
blacksmith
there in
1922
and a
James
McBride
lived
in
Bishop
in
1922
and
1926
. The
Birchims
were a
pioneer
family
of
ranchers
in
Bishop
, with a
son
named
Will,
who
is
perhaps
our
"
Billie.
" As for
Black
, he
bought
this
saloon
in
1888
. In
1902
he
opened
a
saloon
Big
Pine
, and
later
moved
his
family
there. He also
developed
mining
interests
in the
Chrysopolis
,
California
area
,
beginning
in the
late
1890s
.
While
possibly
a
miner
in
Virginia
City
,
Nevada
,
John
Black
met
Rose
Carroll
and
married
her in
Bridgeport
,
California
; the
couple
resided
in
Bodie
,
California
,
until
moving
to
Bishop
, in
1886
. He was the
father
of
J
.
D
.
Black
(1893-1960)
,
seen
here in the
photograph
.
John
Black
died
in
1923
.
