Historical Background |
Son of John Black, J. D. Black (1893-1960), also known as Jack, was a resident of both Big Pine and Bishop, California, during his lifetime. He operated stores in both towns and had some mining interestes. He was a leader in the fight of Big Pine for reparations from the City of Los Angeles during the Owens Valley Water Controversy, of the 1920s. His wife was Sophie Louise Black (1895-1989), nee Staudinger; the couple had three daughters. |
