Historical Background
Completed
in
1904
, the
Hibernian
Building
was
designed
by
John
Parkinson
.
It
was
located
at the
southeast
corner
of
South
Spring
and
West
4th
streets
. This
12-story
Beaux
Arts
style
office
building
has
many
names
.
It
was
first
known
as the
Braly
Building
,
later
the
Union
Trust
Building
, the
Hibernian
Building
, and then the
Continental
Building
. The
175-foot
building
was the
tallest
landmark
in
Downtown
Los
Angeles
until
1928
.
