Historical Background
The
intersection
of
Broadway
and
7th
Street
used
to be
one
of the
busiest
areas
in
Downtown
Los
Angeles
. For
many
years
,
St
.
Vincent's
College
occupied
the
northwestern
corner
of the
intersection
in the
1860s
. As the
population
grew
in the
late
19th
century
,
several
hotels
were
built
to
accommodate
newcomers
and
tourists
. In the
beginning
of the
20th
century
, the
Broadway
and
7th
Street
intersection
became
the
center
of
commercial
business
.
