Historical Background
This
13-story
building
was
named
after
the
Los
Angeles
Investment
Company
, a
major
landowner
,
builder
, and
housing
developer
in the
early
20th
century
.
It
was
designed
by
Ernest
McConnell
,
who
worked
as the
in-house
architect
and also
designed
several
historic
downtown
buildings
for the
company
. This
famous
Beaux
Arts
style
building
was
later
sold
to a
wealthy
rancher
and
capitalist
,
Charles
Chapman
,
after
it
went
through
a
financial
problem
in the
mid-1910s
.
Located
to the
north
of the
Los
Angeles
Investment
Company
was the
noted
Garland
building
designed
by
Morgan
,
Walls
&
Morgan
in the
Beaux
Arts
style
and
housed
the
Morosco
Theatre
,
now
known
as the
Globe
Theatre
.
