.
Among
them,
Dorothy
Chandler
Pavilion
was the
first
and
largest
theater
of the
Music
Center
.
It
was
built
in
1964
and
designed
by
Welton
Becket
under
a
total
design
policy
: the
firm
designed
everything
from the
structure
to its
interior
design
including
lighting
fixtures
,
carpeting
,
typography
,
restaurant
china
and
flatware
to
create
a
unified
look
. The
interior
is
famous
for the
78
crystal
light
fixtures
as
well
as
three
chandeliers
made
with
24,000
pieces
of
hand-polished
crystals
imported
from
Germany
. The
Pavilion
was
named
after
Dorothy
Buffum
Chandler
,
wife
of the
Los
Angeles
Times
'
publisher
,
who
led
a
planning
committee
for the
Music
Center
and
successfully
raised
private
donations
of
over
20
million
dollars
to
build
the
Center
.

On back: "The Grand Hall -- 3 stories high features 3 specially designed 17 ft. high magnificent crystal chandeliers suspended from a diamond patterned ceiling set with diamond shaped mirrors. Welton Becket and Associates Architects -- Engineers."
