Exterior view of Bullock's at the corner of Broadway and 7th street. A sign of "Bullock's Hill Street Building" is seen on the left. |
Historical Background |
Arthur Letts, the owner of the Broadway Store, helped John G. Bullock, one of his famous employees including P.G.Winnett, to found Bullock's in 1907 at Seventh & Broadway in downtown Los Angeles. After Arthur Letts passed away, Bullock and P.G. Winnett bought out Letts' interest and the companies. John G. Bullock later opened a luxurious store located at Wilshire Boulevard in 1929. Broadway and Seventh street functioned as important retail corridors as the intersection was traversed by more than half a million people by 1924. |
