Description	A nighttime view of the Electric Fountain in Beverly Hills, California. A central column rising from a platform is surrounded by colored jets of water. City lights and neon signs are dimly visible in the background.
Historical Background	Beverly Hills' electric fountain is situated on the northeast corner of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards, at the entrance to Beverly Gardens park. It was erected in 1931 at a cost of $22,000. The fountain was designed by Ralph C. Flewelling, and featured changing patterns of jets of water lit by colored lights. The jets and colors were originally timed to display 60 different combinations every eight minutes. In the center of the fountain is a statue sculpted by Merrell Gage of a Tongva woman kneeling in prayer for rain. The statue sits on a pedestal in a circular pool with bas-relif cavrings depicting California history along its walls.
