Historical Background
The
City
of
Burbank
is
located
in the
East
San
Fernando
Valley
, and was
named
for
David
Burbank
, a
dentist
and
entrepreneur
from
New
Hampshire
who
purchased
the
land
in
1867
. In
1886
,
Burbank
sold
much
of his
property
to a
group
of
prospectors
who
laid
out
a
central
business
district
around
the
intersection
of
Olive
Ave
. and
San
Fernando
Blvd
., and
began
selling
tracts
.
Growing
steadily
, the
city
voted
to
incorporate
in
1911
.
Over
the
years
, the
city's
major
industries
have been
aviation
and
entertainment
.
Burbank
High
School
was
built
in
1908
.
